Honey Butter

Honey Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened (or a soft vegan butter)
  • 1/4 - 1/3 cup honey
  • Pinch of salt (or to taste)

Instructions

    1. Add the butter and honey to a mixing bowl.
    2. Using a hand mixer, beat the honey and butter until creamy and well combined.
    3. Stir in a pinch of salt.
    4. Transfer the honey butter to a serving dish or airtight container once it is smooth and evenly mixed.
    5. Serve the honey butter immediately with warm bread, rolls, biscuits, cornbread, or muffins.
    6. Store extra honey butter in the refrigerator. Bring it to room temperature to soften before serving.

Notes

Salt helps balance the sweetness and enhances the flavor of the honey butter, but you can omit it if you prefer.
You can beat the butter and honey with a spatula, but achieving a smooth consistency requires more effort.
You can also use a stand mixer with a paddle attachment instead of a hand mixer.

Fluffy Whole Wheat Bread in a Bread Machine

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup warm water (about 110 degrees)
  • 2 tablespoons oil (a neutral oil)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups stone-ground whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons vital wheat gluten
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

    1. Add the ingredients to the bread machine (bread maker) in the following order: warm water, oil, honey, salt, stone-ground whole wheat flour, vital wheat gluten, and active dry yeast.
    2. Select the whole grain or whole wheat setting on your bread machine.
    Choose the 1.5-pound loaf option.
    4. Select your preferred crust color if your bread machine has this choice.
    5. Start the bread machine. It will likely take 3 - 4 hours.
    6. Once the cycle is complete and the bread is baked, remove it from the bread machine and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Use stone-ground whole wheat flour with this recipe. Regular whole wheat flour may result in a dryer, less flavorful loaf.
Use a neutral oil like olive or grapeseed.
I used Kosher salt in this recipe. Use another type if you prefer.
A bread machine is also called a bread maker.
