Liked your video but if I get the whites done the yolk is too hard have tried many times to no avail.
Karen Breyer says
I also cannot get the yolks runny and the egg whites cooked in the toaster oven. So far the best method to still have a runny yolk is on the stove. Thanks for watching my video!

I found you have to first find out how long it takes your particular oven to consistently get the whites done (a preheated oven and pan takes less time, plus I like my whites a little runny – they say that’s better for your digestion). I cut that time down a third or so. I cover the small loaf pan with tinfoil to keep the heat in and that works. I tried the pan that came with the oven on top of the loaf pan but that’s trickier. Didn’t say it was easy. I went through a dozen eggs in three days, three eggs at a time, to figure that out. They’re not exactly sunny side up. They’re closer to over easy. Getting them on the plate in one piece also took a little finesse. We live. We try. We learn.

Yes every oven is different so you have to experiment a little at first. Setting it for a shorter time and then keep adding more time until your eggs turn out the way you like them. Then you have to remember how long that was for the next time you make them. I need to try it with foil over the pan. That sounds like it may cook it more evenly. Thanks for the tip!

I was able to get the yolk running in a toaster oven. I have one where you can set the temperature and i use this 2.5″ round bowl with a flat bottom. I cover the bottom and side with olive oil and then drop the egg in there. At first i cook it for about 2 minutes at 300 with a thick slice of toast and the toast is usually crunchy by then so i take it out, turn it up to 400 and cook it for another 3 minutes. It should be cooking by then and a thin layer of white forms over the yolk, but the yolk is still running. Got this on my second try.

That sounds great! You have perfected your toaster oven egg cooking technique!

How about using a small 6 cup cupcake pan, now if I wanted to make only 4 eggs would I leave two of the cupcake areas empty?
Karen Breyer says
Yes you can use a small 6 cupcake pan. You could leave 2 empty. If you did not want to leave them empty you could fill them about 1/3 or so with water. I hope they turn out great!

thanks for sharing the video.
should the heat be from under or above (broil or bake)?
also, what works better: metal pan or ceramic/glass dish?
Karen Breyer says
Use your toaster oven in the same way you would make toast. The heat should be on upper and lower. You can use any dish you can bake in. They will all work fine. I hope your eggs turn out perfect!
Zachary says
hi so my toaster oven has several different settings (“toast”, “broil”, “bake”, and “warm”) and I was wondering which of those settings do you think would be best for the eggs?
Karen Breyer says
Hi. I use the toast setting and push it as many times it takes to cook the eggs to my desired doneness. I hope you like this recipe!

Hi Karen! What is the estimated time and temperature for cooking eggs in a toaster oven? You don’t say that anywhere. It will be really helpful if you did, especially the estimated temperature so that those of us who are not able to guess at how long and high to cook the eggs for have targets to aim for. So, can you please give us estimated time and temperature? Thanks.
Karen Breyer says
Hi Jonathan. When you press the toaster button to toast bread there is not usually a specific temperature. There is a often a darkness setting of light to dark for your toast. The time and temperature to cook the eggs will vary depending on the brand of your toaster and what you have the toaster setting on. I push my toaster button down as many times as it takes for the eggs to get to my desired doneness. You will have to test this out on your toaster oven. After the first or second time you should have it figured out. I hope your eggs come out perfect the first time!
